Vriesea nemyi / Guzmania remyi

Vriesea nemyi In my "old" school days spelling was very important and we had tests every day! So whenever Derek writes a Bromeliad article I get the job of checking. What I do find very annoying is after the article has been printed any spelling error seems to jump out at you and you wonder if you had checked it in the first place!

Vriesea nemyi flower This seed raising query is based on this problem. In July 1991 Bertie Bromel sowed some Vriesea nemyi seed (That was on his label!) In 1998 the plant flowered and was identified as Guzmania remyi. We have access to many of the past seed lists issued by the BSI but neither name was on the list for this month. Regrettably we don't have the lists for May or June 1991 so we don't know if Bertie was wrong or the list was wrong!

In any event if you were lucky enough to grow this seed please note its correct name and if you haven't flowered it you are in for a pleasant surprise.
