Pitcairnia flammea

Seed was offered in 1991 as Pitcairnia sp. nova and sowed by Bertie Bromel (Andrew Flower) as AF91134 on 30th November 1991. This has now flowered and photographs are shown below. It would have been nice to know where the seed came from or why it was called sp. nova. Perhaps the colour was a confusion and yet we now know that, thanks to Andrea Costa, that the petal colour for P. flammea can be red or yellowish-white.
What is of interest is that Bertie took his flowering Pitcairnia to a Tillandsia Study group for identification!
