Neoregelia 'Rosella'

In a list in 1982 (we don't know which month) Neoregelia farinosa 'Tidi' was made available. At least two growers in Adelaide obtained seed and 5 or 6 years later there were many Neoregelia farinosa 'Tidi' in circulation and what a motley crew they were except one. Most looked like a Neoregelia concentrica of sorts and we just could not understand where the "farinosa" came from let alone the "tidi" part!

Neo 'Rosella' In April 1988 at a meeting of the Bromeliad Society of S A Inc. we had a vote on a name for the one exception. There was this orphan whose mother was a query and whose father could be anywhere but which cried out for a name. The name 'Rosella' was born, perhaps not unanimously but at least agreed to. A Rosella can be a fruit for people living in Queensland, it can be the name of an Australian factory making Tomato Soup,OR it can be a colourful local Adelaide bird of the parrot family.
