Aechmea 'Surely Not'

 In the list for January 1993 Bertie Bromel (alias Andrew Flower) from New Zealand obtained seed called Aechmea seideliana. The plant flowered in 1998 and produced this inflorescence! Clearly this is not an Aechmea seideliana although it could be a hybrid of it with possibly Aechmea organensis the other parent. Whatever, we have decided to call this particular plant Aechmea 'Surely Not' after Bertie's Great Dane "Shirley". This dog recently disgraced itself as a cattle-dog minding two cows and was demoted to a sheep-dog looking after two sheep!
