" This is an interesting plant in that it is a natural hybrid although not officially acknowledged. This saga started in March 1995 when I wrote an article in Bromelia Vol2 #1 March 1995 (The Brazilian Society Journal) where I pointed out my problems in growing Neoregelia correia-araujoi from seed. The plants grew up in two similar batches, one like Neoregelia marmorata and the other like Neoregelia johannis. Harry Luther advised me that he believed that Neoregelia correia-araujoi was a natural hybrid between these two species and I reported on this at the World Bromeliad Conference at Orlando in 1996. After the Conference Lisa Vinzant of Honolulu sent me a photograph of her two clones of Neoregelia correia-araujoi whose identity had been confirmed by Harry and which she had crossed both ways. She got 1/4 to 1/3 plain green Neoregelia johannis type plants and the rest had some degree of marmoration. When Pereira and Penna named this plant in 1983 they did not know the petal colour although it is probable this is white. According to their findings the plant differed from Neoregelia marmorata by
